Trust Services
There are many types of trust service and trust service provider. They provide the essential services underpinning electronic transactions and contribute to the overall level of trustworthiness and assurance in such systems.
The eIDAS regulation governs a number of trust service types, including the issuance of certificates for the creation of electronic signatures or electronic seals, certificates for web authentication, time stamping services, certificate validation services, and electronic registered delivery services.

The primary industry standards governing trust services are published by ETSI. Compliance with these standards is used to demonstrate that trust services meet industry recognised good practice, and also to meet contractual or regulatory requirements. Although eIDAS cannot specify any particular standards to which an overall trust service should adhere, the ETSI standards are the primary mechanism by which most trust service providers demonstrate their eIDAS compliance.
